The Friends of the Calera Public Library invites the community to de-clutter their homes and sell their wares at the first-ever MayDay Market on May 16 at the library.
Set-up beings at 6 a.m., and the market opens at 7 a.m., said Library Director Janet Greathouse. Registration is $20 and includes a 12-by-12-foot marked space on the library grounds in front of Oliver Park. Participants should bring their own tables and chairs and no electrical power will be provided in the display area.
Greathouse said the market is also open to craftmakers and home-based businesses.
“There are a lot of people that live in areas that aren’t conducive to have their own yard sale, so we decided to have a big community yard sale,” Greathouse said. “We thought we would give people a chance to make some money instead of spending money.”
Greathouse said Birmingham-based company Technical Knockout will be at the market to collect old computers and other equipment for recycling. Gone for Good shredding center of Birmingham will also be on hand to shred paper documents on-site.
If participants have leftover items, they can carry them to the Hannah Home donation truck parked at the market, Greathouse said.
In the event of rain, the market will be held on May 23. Participants may register online at cityofcalera.org.
