Overnight storms are blamed for a power outage currently affecting 72,299 people in Jefferson and Shelby counties, an Alabama Power spokesperson said Monday.
“We’re hoping to have most of our customers on by today, but it’s a possibility power won’t be restored to some until tomorrow, maybe even Wednesday,” said spokesperson Keisa Sharpe. “We’ve had significant damage to our system from overnight winds.”
More power outages could be on the horizon. The National Weather Service said Shelby County could see severe thunderstorms later this afternoon and evening.
