If you’re a little behind on your New Year’s resolution to get healthy, you can get back on track at the 2009 Health Fair at the Chelsea City Hall lawn on April 18.
The fair, hosted by the South Shelby Chamber of Commerce, will be from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
Chamber Executive Director Stacy Walkup said the event is designed to promote healthy living habits by providing free screenings and health information.
“It’s a great way for people in our area to come, meet and talk with health care professionals and meet the local providers and physicians,” Walkup said.
This is the second year for the fair, which started when Chamber members noticed that more health and wellness businesses were moving into the South Shelby County area.
Walkup said she hopes to see more than 300 people attend the health fair.
“Last year, we had Hurricane Gustav come through on the day of the fair, so the attendance was probably affected by that,” she said, chuckling. “We feel like if we have 300 people come, then it’ll be successful.”
The fair is sponsored by Alabama Telco Credit Union, Shelby Baptist Medical Center, the city of Chelsea and the South Shelby Chamber of Commerce.
Attendees can get free vision screenings, nutrition information, high blood pressure testing, glucose testing, cholesterol screenings, foot screenings and information on health insurance. There will also be food and children’s entertainment.
