Former Thompson pitcher Austin Lucas was named the Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week March 23.
Lucas, a junior at Jacksonville State University, did not allow an earned run through 14 innings of work to pick up a pair of wins during the week. JSU was 5-1 overall on the week.
Last Tuesday, Lucas tossed a complete game, 10-0, shutout against Bradley, striking out five and allowing five hits and only one walk. Sunday, he fanned five more batters and allowed four hits in a 14-3 win OVC over Murray State.
Before transferring to JSU during the offseason, Lucas posted a 6-2 record in two years at Wallace State Community College in Hanceville, collecting 77 strikeouts.
He was a First Team All-State selection at Thompson in 2006 and set the school record for most strikeouts in a single game with 18 his senior year.
