After starting out slow, the Thompson Warriors’ baseball team has gotten back on track and looks poised to repeat as the Metro Tournament champions following Thursday’s 5-0 victory over previously unbeaten Spain Park.
Trent Lucas was 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI as the Warriors scored two in the third, one in the fourth and two more in the fifth.
Michael Powers pitched five innings and recorded two strikeouts in the win. Jake Hester came in relief and struck out five.
“We’ve started to gain momentum,” Thompson head coach Pat Hamrick said. “We’re pitching well.”
Jordan Chism was 2-for-3 at the plate, Brantley Patton had a double and Murray had two RBIs.
The win propelled the Warriors to the semifinals, where they will face the winner of Oak Mountain and Vestavia on Friday. The game will be played Saturday if rain delays it.
The Warriors are the defending champions of the tournament.
