Wildcats swept in opening twin-bill

Shelby County lost a home opener twin-bill Monday, losing to LAMP of Montgomery, 16-6, and Jemison, 5-0.
Braten Dill took the loss in game one for the Wildcats after allowing seven runs, six earned, in three innings of work. He had seven strikeouts. Kalep Benton struck out five LAMP batters in relief, but allowed nine runs, six of which were earned.
Jordan Bentley, Daniel Watkins and Bently each had hits for Shelby County. The Wildcats had five errors.
In the second game, temperatures dropped into the mid-30s as Jemison allowed only one Wildcat hit to Wesley Howard on a broken-bat infield single.
Garrett Sellers picked up the loss on the mound, allowing four earned runs through 3 1/3 innings. He had seven strikeouts. Kevin McNorton struck out six batters in relief, allowing one earned run, while Shelby Academy transfer Chad King pitched the final third of an inning.
Shelby County (0-2) hosts Sylacauga Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
