Ft. Dale ends Kingwood season

Kingwood’s hopes for a postseason push in the AISA state tournament were short-lived Friday, falling 48-35, to Fort Dale at Huntingdon College in Montgomery.
Kingwood (14-8) was 0-of-5 from the field to start the game before taking a 2-0 lead with four minutes to play in the first quarter, but second-seed Ft. Dale quickly went up, 6-2 and never looked back.
Fort Dale collected seven points off turnovers to take a 10-6 lead after the first eight minutes and carried a 20-10 lead into halftime.
Kingwood posted a run early in the second half, as Lauren Rozof managed to pull the Lions within four points, 26-22, on a 3-point basket with five minutes to play in the third quarter. Fort Dale answered with 15 unanswered points to pull away with a 19-point lead, 41-22 midway through the fourth.
Rozof finished with 10 points as Kingwood’s leading scorer, while Katherine Stockman had 10 rebounds.
Abbey Martin and Lori Fail led Fort Dale with 14 and 13 points, respectively.
Fort Dale (15-8) advances to the AISA Class 3A semifinal against fourth-seeded Taylor Road Feb. 20 at 11 a.m.
