Shelby County students and adults tuned in Tuesday to watch Barack Obama’s inauguration as the nation’s 44th president.
Most schools allowed students to watch the historic event in individual classrooms or school-wide assemblies. The inauguration of the nation’s first black president was also televised in restaurants and other businesses.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at 11 a.m. Tuesday. The Inaugural Parade followed at 1:30 p.m.
A number of inaugural balls are scheduled for this evening. A National Prayer service is set for Washington National Cathedral on Wednesday, January 21.
