Christian Blake Dobbins of Boy Scout Troop 404 in Pelham recently received the Eagle Scout award. The Eagle is the highest attainable rank in Boy Scouts. A ceremony will be held at the Pelham First Baptist Church Annex on Sunday, Jan. 25.
Blake worked with the Historic Camp Tranquility Restoration Association to restore the roofs of two cabins within the camp. Camp Tranquility was founded in 1937 in the heart of Oak Mountain State Park.
During the Great Depression, it was originally designed as a Works Progress Administration Project (WPA). The WPA was called the Oak Mountain Recreational Demonstration Area (RDA). The year 2007 marked the 70th anniversary of Camp Tranquility’s inception.
Blake is a senior at Pelham High School. He is the son of Joseph and Daphne Butera of Pelham and Richard Alan Dobbins of Jasper.
