Maybe, just maybe, the difficult economic conditions this Christmas season are a blessing in disguise.

We surely don’t want anyone among us to suffer. And we can be thankful we in growing Shelby County are more fortunate than many in terms of weathering these economic challenges.

But perhaps the focus of Christmas has been lost in recent years. Maybe stretching ourselves beyond our means to provide our children and other loved ones with the latest and most excessive is partly to blame for what we are experiencing now.

Maybe, just maybe, this Christmas, when most of us will give and get a little less, we will spend more time enjoying simpler things, like laughing with our friends and family and recalling why we celebrate Christmas.

Maybe we will take a lesson and our Christmases will become less about spending and getting and more about praising the birth of our Savior.
