While you’re getting your holiday list together (and checking it twice), if you can, try to include a few gifts for those in need here in Shelby County. We’ve pulled together a list of some charities that could use some help right now.
-Shelby Emergency Assistance — This program provides aid to clients who have had a recent crisis and need short term assistance. Teen parents can also get education to learn how to provide for their children. 665-1942.
-Humane Society — Gives people the opportunity to adopt animals or give them up, as well as education about taking care of animals. 669-3916.
-Salvation Army — The Salvation Army provides a number of social services, including youth services, community centers, rehabilitation and emergency services. 328-2420.
-Family Connection — Provides services for at-risk youth and their families, including temporary shelters and counseling services. 663-6301.
-Owens House — Supports victims of child abuse and offers school-based and community-based abuse prevention programs. 669-3333.
-Red Cross — Collects blood for medical patients in need. Also works for disaster relief and preparedness, and supports the military. 669-3333.
