A recount for the Montevallo mayoral race is set for Friday at 10 a.m. at city hall.

The recount was requested by mayoral candidate and former city attorney Steve Sears, who was beaten by 10 votes, 413-403, in the race against Chamber of Commerce President Ben McCrory.

“Because of the unusual voting pattern and the fact that the voter list was mistakenly sealed, I requested a recount in order to get a look at that,” Sears said Thursday.

Sears had to pay $1,500 to cover expenses related to the recount.
