Funeral service for the Rev. Jerry Daniel Henderson, age 60, of Vincent, was held Aug. 30, 2008, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Vincent. Dr. Darryl Wood, Dr. Buddy McGohon and the Rev. Guy Anderson officiated.
Burial followed at Vincent Cemetery. Visitation was held prior to the service from 12-2 p.m. at the church.
The Rev. Henderson, who passed away Aug. 28 at UAB, served Baptist churches across Alabama as music and youth director,associate pastor, minister of music, senior director and music and education director.
He taught private piano and voice, was a teacher at State Baptist Music Camp for 37 years, a founding headmaster of Academy of Performing Arts Montgomery, a conductor of Chilton Civic Chorale, charter member and officer of Alabama Singing Men and a member and officer of Alabama Federation of Music Clubs.
Mr. Henderson was saved in 1960 and called to the ministry in 1967. He served 40 years in the music ministry and received the Paul Stewart Lifetime Service Award of the Singing Men of Alabama.
Mr. Henderson’s life verse is “My heart is steadfast, O God I will sing and make music with all my soul,” Psalms 108:1.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Aycock Henderson of Vincent; brother, Charles Reginald Henderson Jr. of Eutaw; sisters, Jesse J. Henderson of Austin, Texas, Peggy Henderson Stuckey of Huntsville, Patsy Henderson Rankin of Calera, Linda Henderson Fontaine of Kingsport, Tenn. and Carlene Branch Henderson of Eutaw. and many nieces, nephews and other “killing kin” through the United States.
He is preceded in death by his father, Charles R. Henderson Sr.; mother, Sue Ella Drummond Henderson; sister, Sue Ellen Henderson Cochran; brother, Davis Lamb Henderson; and three infant siblings.
Pallbearers were nephews, Lynn Stuckey Jr., Michael Stuckey, Derrick Stuckey, Bruce Martin, Denis Martin, Chris Henderson, Gary Henderson, Nicholas Henderson, Charles Fontaine, Charles “Pete” Henderson III and Stephen Jackson. Honorary pallbearers include the Singing Men of Alabama.
