Funeral service for Maurine D. Bates, age 96, of Shelby, was held at 2 PM, Thursday, June 7, 2007, at Calera of Christ. Burial followed in Old Shelby Cemetery.

Visitation was held Wednesday from 4 to 7 PM at Bolton-Letlow Funeral Home.

Mrs. Bates, who passed away on Monday, June 4, 2007, at a local hospital, was born on April 4, 1911 in Fayette. She was a school teacher for 46 years and was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Bates and a grandson, Alan Bates.

She is survived by Charles E. Bates of Birmingham, Phillip E. Bates of Marietta, GA, and P. Randy Bates of McCalla; eight grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren
