The Shelby Academy Raiders, under the direction of head football coach DeWayne Kervin, are the last Shelby County school standing in AISA football.
The Raiders defeated East Memorial Christian Academy 38-14 at home last Friday night and will travel to play Autauga Academy this Friday in the Class 1A semifinals.
The win over East Memorial Christian Academy in the first round improved the Raiders overall record to 9-2.
&8220;I thought we played one of our better defensive games in the past few weeks . . . a little more aggressively,&8221; said Kervin.
He said Rick McBride, who plays both running back and defensive back, really stood out on both sides of the ball.
McBride gained 143 yards on nine carries and scored three touchdowns. He also led the team with 15 tackles.
Also playing well for the Raiders were Cody Wilson with 135 yards and one touchdown on 14 carries, and quarterback Brad Lovoy, who gained 57 yards and scored a touchdown on 12 carries.
Wilson also had 10 tackles for the Raiders.
The Raiders find themselves on the road to face Autauga Academy, which just eliminated Shelby Academy&8217;s cross-county rival Cornerstone Christian School on the road 36-14.
Kervin said 10-2 Autauga is the same team that eliminated his Raiders last season. He said their speed is of concern to him.
He also said Autauga will be a better team than the East Memorial Christian Academy team his Raiders just beat.
