Helena First Baptist Church recently celebrated the opening of its Family Life Center.
The two-story building boasts a basketball court and walking track as well as a stainless steel kitchen, a conference room and a sitting parlor. Several Sunday school classes and the church office will also relocate to the FLC.
Dr. J.D. Davis, pastor, said the center is a way to keep up with Helena&8217;s growth.
&8220;I felt there was a need for a multi-purpose building for First Baptist Church members, and this facility is exactly what I envisioned,&8221; said Davis.
First Baptist is a member of the Southern Baptist Church and the Shelby Baptist Association.
The church&8217;s mission is to proclaim the &8220;Good News of Jesus Christ through biblical teaching, caring service and life changing ministries, touching people in the community and world.&8221;
Davis and his wife, Patricia, moved to Helena in January 2000. Since then, the have watched the church continue to grow along with the city.
The church offers many diverse programs, from preschools to Bible study classes, from a Wednesday weekly fellowship dinner to a senior adult ministry.
There are bible study classes Sunday morning for adults, teens and children. A nursery is provided for babies and toddlers.
Currently the adult Sunday evening &8220;Grow&8221; classes are studying &8220;Effective Parenting in a Defective World&8221; and &8220;How to Study Your Bible.&8221;
