The City of Alabaster is set to contract with a firm that will oversee development at a new city center proposed along Highway 119.

The new center, which would be built on a 111-acre site, would include a new city hall, retail space and residential areas.

The Alabaster architectural review board plans to meet with a number of developers over the next few weeks, officials said, with hopes of reaching an agreement in the next few months.

The chosen developer would be charged with overseeing development at the new site, in addition planning for traffic issues and building timelines.

City officials said they hope the new development could begin construction in late 2007, but there are a number of details that still need to be worked out
