Funeral service for Paul Sumners, age 85, of Vincent, was at 1 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 17, 2006 at First Baptist Church, Vincent.
Burial followed in Harpersville City Cemetery.
Visitation was Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the church.
Mr. Sumners, who passed away on Monday, August 14, 2006 at a local hospital, was born on May 11, 1921 in Vincent. Mr. Sumners served in the U.S. Army and was a Purple Heart Veteran of World War II. Mr. Sumners served 11 years as Trustee for Vincent City Schools, member of Shelby County Board of Education for two terms and on the Vincent City Council for 2 terms. He was a lifelong deacon and member of First Baptist Church of Vincent. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Howard Sumners, Lee Roy Sumners, Walter I. Sumners and Charles Eugene Sumners.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Estelle Sumners; children, James Paul (Donna) Sumners, David Wayne (Dale) Sumners, Billy Frank (Donna) Sumners; grandchildren, David (Natalie), Skylar, Taylor, Ben, Garrett, Lindsey, Cody (Jennifer) and Ashley Sumners, three great grandchildren, Sydney, Sarah, Tyler Sumners and one impending birth – John Paul Sumners, II; brothers, Clyde Sumners, Robert Earl Sumners; sister, Ruby Fay Justice; special niece, Mary Ailene Gill and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
