Calera locals tired of dirt

Things are getting dirty in at least one Calera neighborhood.
Homeowners in Savannah Point on Shelby County 12 say expansion work at their subdivision is stirring up dust that settles on there cars, decks, grills and even pets.
&8220;Everything you touch is covered in dust,&8221; said Jake Giovinco. &8220;When wind blows this way it looks like something is on fire.&8221;
Giovinco says he did not think the leveling project would take this long.
&8220;We keep thinking they can&8217;t stay that much longer,&8221; he said. &8220;I wish they would do something else until the drought breaks.&8221;
Joyce Doublin first noticed something was out of place when her normally white pet dog started coming in covered in yellow dirt.
&8220;You can&8217;t even work without knocking up two inches of dust,&8221; said Doublin. &8220;I&8217;m so sick of it. They must be trying to go to China.&8221;
Residents say the dust makes staying outside during construction uncomfortable and is hard to remove.
&8220;It&8217;s terrible. You can&8217;t get if off,&8221; said Giovinco.
A spokesperson for HPH Properties, which builds the homes at Savannah Pointe, said that the dry weather is to blame and that nothing besides rainfall can alleviate the problem.
