Jimmy Lamar Killingsworth will find out in about a month where he will spend the rest of his life.
Killingsworth was convicted last week of slaying a Randolph, Ala., man and beating his wife with a chain in December 2004.
A Bibb County jury recommended he spend the rest of his life in prison without the chance for parole.
Killingsworth was convicted of three counts of capital murder and one count of second-degree assault.
The attack on Steven C. Spears and his wife, Monica, occurred Dec. 10, 2004, on Alabama Highway 139.
The three capital murder counts involved the three elements of the slaying: &8220;attacking with a deadly weapon into a vehicle and killing a victim, firing a deadly weapon from a vehicle and killing a victim and killing a victim during the course of a robbery,&8221; according to information from the Attorney General&8217;s office.
The assault count focused on the &8220;vicious beating&8221; of Monica Spears &8220;with a chain,&8221; officials said.
Officials said Killingsworth and another man, Troy Connell, followed the Spears after they stopped at a convenience store in Montevallo.
The Spears were traveling to their home in Randolph, Ala., after a family gathering, according to media reports at the time.
They fired into the Spears vehicle, ultimately killing Steven Spears and then, beating his wife with a chain as she attempted to get away.
According to witness testimony during the trial, Killingsworth was the driver of a red SUV, while Connell was the shooter. Monica Spears testified further that Connell beat her with a chain.
Killingsworth is the first to go to trial for the crime, official said.
Connell, a Chilton County resident who was 16 at the time of the attack, is also charged with capital murder and assault.
Connell&8217;s mother, Diane Pate, has been charged with hindering prosecution as has a fourth individual, another juvenile who received youthful offender status.
Trial dates for these three have not been set
