Student of the Week: Quentin Franklin

Quentin Franklin, a 10-year-old fifth grader at Thompson Intermediate School, is &8220;Shelby County Reporter&8221; Student of the Week.
Fifth Grade Teacher JoAnne Hoff and Thompson Intermediate Assistant Principal Joyce Dixon selected him for the honor.
Dixon said, &8220;Quentin was selected because he is a great all around student who enjoys learning and a challenge intrigues him. Quentin works hard and has many friends. He is a student that is every teacher&8217;s dream.&8221;
Quentin is the son of Angela and Byron Franklin. He has a 1-month-old baby brother, Braxton. And he is the grandson of Ruby and Larry Woods and Sharon Johnson.
Quentin said his favorite subject in school is history, &8220;Because I think the wars are interesting and I like to learn about how people lived back then.&8221; He said his favorite time period to study is the American Revolution. And he plans to visit Washington, D.C. with his class.
His favorite teacher is Brent Byars. Quentin said that&8217;s because, &8220;He makes math more fun.&8221;
Quentin was recognized at Creek View Elementary and has made the A B Honor Roll at Thompson Intermediate.
He sings in the school choir, takes karate and likes to read mysteries. He also likes to help with plays at his church and he likes to fish.
He said his dad is his favorite superhero. &8220;He goes outdoors with me and stuff and he plays with me a lot. He helps me with my homework, and he&8217;s really good at math.&8221;
Quentin said he wants to become a marine biologist because he likes water animals and the water. He especially likes jellyfish.
Quentin said he plans to attend college, but hasn&8217;t decided where just yet
