Byron E. Jones Sr

Byron E. Jones Sr. of Hueytown died Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2005.
He was a retired staff sergeant with the Alabama National Guard. He had also retired from U.S. Steel after 33 years. He served in the Merchant Marines and the U.S. Navy and worked as a bodyguard for former Gov. George C. Wallace. He was a member of the Church of God of Bessemer and held the nickname &8220;Sheriff&8221; as he worked as a police officer for the city of Midfield. He was preceded in death by his parents, Byron Leonard and Ida Jane Jones, and his siblings, Julius, Charles and Earl Jones and Willie Mae Mobley.
He is survived by his wife, Faye Jones of Hueytown; his son, Byron (Lisa) Edwin Jones Jr. of Calera; three daughters, Brenda (Rick) Bigbee and Marie (Billy) Mulder, both of Hueytown, and Denise (Brian) Hardin of Wewahitchka, Fla.; one sister, Opal Lee of Indiana; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Service was Nov. 28 at 10 a.m. at Valhalla Funeral Home Chapel in Midfield, Brother Ed Rice presiding. Burial followed in Valhalla Cemetery in Midfield, Valhalla Funeral Home directing
