AISA: Cornerstone, Kingwood eliminated in first round

Lions standout quarterback Andrew Pearce was picked off eight times by Pickens Academy Friday night as Kingwood fell, 26-6, in the first round of the
AISA 2A playoffs.
Pickens scored their 26 points in the first three quarters, with the Lions’ only score coming in the final period off an 18-yard pass from Pearce to receiver Adam Irby.
Pearce completed only 11-of-36 passes in the game for 154 yards while Kingwood was hindered by 11 penalties for 70 yards. The Lions finished with 69 yards on the ground on 13 carries.
The loss ended Kingwood’s best season ever and gave the Lions a final record of 9-2, improving dramatically from the team’s 3-7 finish last season.
The Cornerstone Christian Chargers were eliminated from the Class 1A AISA playoffs Friday night by Lowndes Academy, falling 53-12 on the road to finish the season with a overall record of 6-5
