Iron works festival

The 17th annual Shelby Iron Works Festival will be Oct. 8-9 on the grounds of the historic Shelby Iron Company. Festival activities include a syrup mill making sweet sorghum syrup, a grist mill grinding corn, blacksmiths in action, an 1870s sawmill in operation, antique tractors and a tractor parade (Saturday only), an authentic Alabama moonshine still on display, candle dipping, lye soap making hominy cooking, cotton spinning and other old time crafts.
Music will be provided by Mike Nicholas and the Stings ‘N’ Things Band. There will be plenty of food including beans, greens, barbecue and Old Shelby Boiled Peanuts. The park is located 4.5 miles south of Columbiana on Highway 42 just west of the Highway 47 intersection in southeast Shelby County.
