County volunteers are out there

Much has been said recently about the lack of bellringer volunteers for Salvation Army kettles in Shelby County.
&uot;Said,&uot; in fact, is too weak a word. County residents have been accused of failing to support the Salvation Army.
We believe these accusations are unfair ones.
Shelby County residents are some of the most generous in this state.
We take care of our own and then some — across Alabama.
There are so many opportunities for county residents to make a difference, both in monetary donations and donations of time.
And our residents take full advantage of those opportunities.
Perhaps the Salvation Army and other organizations which are struggling to find volunteers should try a different method of locating people who are willing to help.
Those fine people are out there in Shelby County. We see them every day – working for a variety of other programs.
