Thompson edges Eagles

The Thompson Warriors scored 1 run in the first inning and 1 in the seventh inning to defeat Oak Mountain, 2-0, in the finals of the Shelby County softball tournament last weekend.
Thompson (24-8) edged the Eagles behind the arm of pticher Stephanie Piggott, who picked up her second win of the day Friday with the five-hit shutout in the championship game.
Lindsay Creighton gave up five hits in the loss for Oak Mountain (23-5).
Thompson scored in the first inning when Katie McGuire’s single drove in Nicole Lowery.
What seemed to be Oak Mountain’s best chance to score slipped away when the Eagles left the bases loaded in the sixth inning after two Thompson errors.
The Warriors added insurance in the seventh when Aimee Selman knocked in Ashley Blankenship.
Piggott also notched the win in the Warriors’ semifinal matchup against host Pelham (21-10) earlier in the day.
Lindsay Brogdon improved her season record to 16-2 after recording two victories on the mound for Oak Mountain during the tournament.
Brogdon tossed a no-hitter to defeat Shelby County in the opener, 3-0.
She struck out 11 and walked two in the win.
Brogdon also earned the win in the Eagles’ semifinal victory over Montevallo.
She performed at the plate as well, slapping a first-inning home run over the center-field fence and picking up two RBIs against the Bulldogs
