Cats claim county courts Panthers take first in Shelby County tennis tournament

Pelham and Indian Springs dominated the Shelby County boys tennis tournament last weekend, combining to win seven championships in the 10 seeds of singles competition and three championships in five seeds of doubles play.
It was the Panthers, coached by Betty Shivers, who took home the team championship with 48 points, while Indian Springs finished second with 39 points. Rounding out team play were Briarwood Christian, 19 points; Oak Mountain, 17 points; Thompson, 11 points; Shelby County, 3 points; and Montevallo, 0 points.
Ari Heffer and Bryan Song, both of Indian Springs, took first place in the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds, respectively, in singles play.
Pelham had five players to win county championships in singles play. John McKay, No. 3 seed; John Flaniken, No. 4 seed; Patrick Owens, No. 5 seed; Andrew Stone, No. 6 seed; and Tyler Burger, No. 8 seed; all finished first for the Panthers.
Briarwood’s Scott Adair finished first as the No. 7 seed while Tyler Miller and Mark Swain won championships for Oak Mountain in the No. 9 and No. 10 seeds, respectively.
Bryan Song and Vinay Yarlagudda won the No. 1 seed championship for Indian Springs while Ari Heffer and Brett Yansch placed first in the No. 2 seed.
Pelham’s John Flaniken and Andrew Stone won the No. 3 seed as Briarwood’s Scott Adair and John McIntosh won the No. 4 seed. Tyler Miller and Patrick Markham won the No. 5 seed for Oak Mountain.
