A former teacher, coach and principal from Chelsea is the latest member of the City Council there, filling the position recently vacated by Allen Boone.
Richard Conkle will serve the remaining year of Boone’s term, until next summer’s council elections. Boone announced his resignation in early June to pursue a job opportunity in Jacksonville, Fla.
Chelsea mayor Earl Niven, a long-time acquaintance of Conkle, said the newest councilman is a perfect fit for the city.
&uot;He is a man that loves Chelsea,&uot; Niven said of Conkle.
&uot;He loves people and he doesn’t mind rolling his sleeve up and doing some work. And those are ingredients that make a good councilman.&uot;
Conkle, who worked at both Chelsea High and Chelsea Middle schools said he is excited about serving the community in a new role.
&uot;I’m really doing this for Chelsea because I’ve been here a good while and I love the community, people and this area of Shelby County.&uot;
