PELHAM — The Pelham Panthers baseball team opened the 2010 season Feb. 15 with a win over the Hueytown Golden Gophers, but the team didn't fare as well against the weather. The Panthers were scheduled to play a double-header against the Gophers and Northridge, but the Northridge game was suspended in the first inning with Pelham leading 2-0 due to heavy snow.

Whitewashed fences, images of steamboats and rocking chairs filled the Albert L. Scott Library Feb. 9 as Mark Twain shared his life story with more than 30 children and parents. The famous author, dressed in a cream-colored suit, black bow tie and a cigar, explained his love of Mississippi riverboats, adventure and writing as the library seemed to travel back in time more than 170 years.
