Veto of alcohol bill hurts local revenue
Published Tuesday, May 12, 2009
So Gov. Bob Riley, in his infinite wisdom, decides that it is unconstitutional to “treat two different and distinct issues in one bill.” Aside from the fact that the issues are not that different, since when is it unconstitutional to address two issues in the same bill?
Gov. Riley’s veto, if not overridden, will seriously hurt the sales tax base in Shelby County at a time in our history when the county needs to keep its revenue sources intact as much as possible.
It looks to me like he is doing everything he can to uphold the perception that the Republican Party is the party of “no.”
