Local baseball talent playing in ABCA All-Star Weekend

Fourteen baseball players from across the county will participate in the Alabama Baseball Coaches Association Underclassman All-Star Weekend July 2-5 in Troy. A total of 160 players who will be juniors or seniors in 2009-10 have been invited to the weekend.

Players will arrive in Troy July 2 for a banquet at 6:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday’s schedules will be a mixture of batting practice, infield/outfield practices and games. Sunday will include four games.

Team 6 includes the most players from Shelby County: Trevor Fitts, Tripp Martin and Hunter Ragsdale, Pelham; John David Crowe and Jake Hubbard, Oak Mountain; Trent Posey, Calera; and Carter White, Spain Park.

Team 5 will include Oak Mountain pitcher Cary Baxter, Pelham outfielder Michael Bishop, Briarwood pitcher and outfielder Logan Crook and Thompson’s Jonathan Keller and Gus Williford.

Shelby County’s Evan McNeal will play for Team 6 and Jake Hester of Thompson will play for Team 8.
