CHELSEA – January marks the one-year anniversary of Kim Anderson and her husband Jason becoming the owners of a children’s clothing boutique in Mt Laurel called Favorite Laundry.

“I’ve always sewn for my kids, but this is my first retail experience,” Kim Anderson said. “It’s really gone well. It was just meant to be.”

Over the last 12 months, the couple has learned the ins and outs of operating a business and successfully added a consignment component, The Laundry Basket, to the boutique in March.

Favorite Laundry offers clothes and other novelty items for babies, toddlers and children from clothing lines including Mustard Pie, Jack and Peppar, Emerald August, Lyda Baby and Feather Baby.

The shop also carries a self-titled clothing line based on the Blessed Be the Name trunk line, Anderson said.

The plain white T-shirts bearing the Favorite Laundry label can be personalized with monogramming and appliqués.

“This is one of our real staples,” Anderson said of the line.

For the Laundry Basket, Anderson converted space the previous owner used for trunk shows into a room for consignment items, most of which are gently used or new clothing for children.

“We want them to have it all right there,” Anderson said. “Our goal is to make it easy. You just bring it in cleaned, and we do the rest. A lot of the pieces even from our consigners have tags on them.”

Anderson said much of the consignment merchandise the shop has acquired came from veteran Favorite Laundry customers.

“We really started with our customer base here,” Anderson said. “That’s how it really started to fill up. We definitely wanted to utilize the extra space.”

The Greater Shelby Chamber of Commerce will hold an anniversary ribbon cutting at Favorite Laundry on Jan. 9 at 10:30 a.m.

Favorite Laundry is located at 100 Croft Street in the Mt Laurel town center.
